One of THOSE Kind...

Have you ever had one of THOSE kind of friends? You know the one...the friend who never calls unless they want something. They are never willing to involve themselves in your life, but wish for you to jump into the deep end of their drama at a seconds notice. The friend with whom you are always in trouble with but they can do no wrong.

Well, I have, or maybe used to have, a friend like that. I have tried and tried to be a good friend and have finally given up. I have worked at keeping in contact, and it works only when she wants it to.


One of Rick's guy friends told me that a friend is someone you can count on when you're in a pinch; everyone else is just an acquaintance. That statement rang true to me. How often are we bombarded with needs, wants and desires from someone who is really not a friend? Someone who wants all the help in the world for the smallest of things, but is never really there for you when catastrophe strikes let alone a bad hair day?

I do have wonderfully giving, supportive, accepting, loyal and loving friends that I know that I can count on in a pinch. Women who are willing to listen to my long and drawn-out story about a student who threw a fit at school becuase he lost his pencil. Women for whom I would be willing to drop everything and run if they needed it.

I haven't lost a friend, just an acquaintance.
